Food Cravings For Breastfeeding Mothers

If you are breastfeeding, it is more likely that you will be consuming extra calories. This might freak you out if you plan to get your pre-pregnancy body back, but since you will be breastfeeding you will miss your old body a little bit longer.

Breastfeeding brings hunger along.  Sometimes you might feel very hungry or thirsty while nursing and pumping throughout the day. Just like during pregnancy, there are foods and others things that your body craves but you got to be careful with the health and wellness of your baby. Whatever you will eat is surely going to impact your milk.

So along with breastfeeding comes LOTS of hunger. It feels like a bottomless pit sometimes! With nursing and pumping throughout the day at work, your body needs to use those extra calories. Similar to pregnancy, there are foods that you should eat and others you should stay away from for the health and wellness of your baby.

Here is a list of some things that you should cut them off as they might have a negative impact on the baby. For instance, having excess coffee might affect the baby’s small tummy. Citrus fruits cause fussiness as acid is rough on babies and causes tummy problems. A glass of wine might be okay but make sure you consult your doctor.

THINGS TO AVOID

  • Excess caffeine (coffee, soda)
  • Excess alcohol
  • Citrus
  • Strong Spices
  • Gassy Veggies (garlic, broccoli, onion)

Here is also a link of natural things that might increase the supply of the milk.

MILK BOOSTERS

  • Fenegreek
  • Mother's Milk tea
  • Basil Essential oil
  • Water, lots of water
  • Brewers Yeast
  • Flaxseed
  • Oatmeal

Always remember don’t eat less to get your pre-pregnancy body. While breastfeeding, you must eat more for yourself to keep the baby healthy.
