Night Time Cough Remedies for Children

Coughing during all night long can disrupt a child’s sleep. It can drain them and will make them feel tired the next day. Coughing at night could be due to allergy, infection or cold.

Here are some tips that can soothe your kids from night time coughing.

Warm Soup

A warm bowl of vegetable or chicken soup will relieve your child from cough or a sore throat.

Turmeric Milk

Turmeric has antibacterial properties and a warm glass of milk mixed with ½ teaspoon of turmeric can help soothe your kid’s throat and other infections.

Ginger And Honey

The antihistamine property of ginger helps treat allergy which is the most common cause of cold. It also cures a persistent cough. Crushed ginger mixed with honey soothes an inflamed throat and cures cough as well.

Keep Head Elevated

Children cough during night because the mucus dribbles down from the back of the nose into the throat causing persistent coughing throughout the night. Prop a pillow under the head to keep the head elevated as it will reduce the trickling down of mucus which will result in lesser laughing during the night.

Massage:

Heat mustard oil with roughly crushed garlic and let it cool. Massage it on baby’s body especially on the chest, back, throat, palms of the hands and below the feet. Mustard oil keeps the body warm and relaxes the child. However, don’t put too much pressure while massaging the baby’s chest and back. Move your hands in gentle motions to relax the baby.
