Super-Foods for New Moms


To stay healthy after pregnancy and to gain extra energy here are some foods which you should make a part of your regular diet. Make sure that you and the baby get the nutrients that are required for a healthy lifestyle. So, next time when you go to do your grocery shopping, make sure you add the following in your cart.

Low Fat Dairy Items
It is important that you consume yogurt, milk, cheese, or any other dairy products during the breastfeeding period. Try to include 3 cups of daily in your daily routine.

Beef
Lean beef is best for new moms as they are rich in iron and boost energy. You can maintain the iron level in your body and will keep up with the demands of a newborn baby.  Also, they’re an excellent source for protein and vitamin B-12.

Legumes
Rich in iron the dark-colored kidney beans are the best breastfeeding food for a new mom. They are budget-friendly and contain non-animal proteins.

Blueberries
New moms must have fresh fruits in their diet plans too. The blueberries are delicious and are filled with minerals and vitamins and also give you a healthy dose of carbohydrates. 

Brown Rice
If you are tempted on taking the carbs diet to lose the baby weight. Add brown rice to your diet to keep up with the energy level. Brown rice makes the best quality breast milk for your baby.

Oranges
Excellent source for Vitamin C, oranges and other citrus fruits are best for breastfeeding moms. Make sure to drink at least one glass of fresh orange juice daily for nutrition and to boost your energy. 

Eggs
Eggs are the best source for proteins and can be used in multiple ways. You can use scrambled eggs, hard-boiled or fried eggs. Or you can have it in the salad at lunchtime and even make an omelet. 

Whole Wheat Bread
Folic acid is very important for baby’s development especially in the early stages of pregnancy. It is an important nutrient and is very good for baby’s health. Whole grain bread and pastas will give you a healthy dose of iron and fiber.

Green Vegetables
Spinach and broccoli are filled with vitamin A and are a very good supplement for mother and baby. They are non-dairy source of calcium and contain iron and vitamin C. Green vegetables are also filled with antioxidants and are low in calories.

Water
Breastfeeding moms should never be dehydrated and for that, they must stay well-hydrated to keep up with the energy level and milk production. You can fulfill the water requirement in the form of juices and milk. But be careful with caffeine drinks such as tea and coffee. DO not drink more than 2-3 cups of caffeine as they can make the baby irritable.
